This has been a Go! weekend.... I have been busy cutting Rose of Sharon flowers, leaves and berries, pre-fused, ready for designing my own Rose of Sharon blocks. My Accuquilt Go! Cutter is red hot from cutting that Rose of Sharon die! Above is one of the blocks I designed. Now if I could machine applique as fast as I can cut and design, I would have a quilt done this weekend! Instead, I'm lucky if it's next year (sigh).
I have lost count of the number of Rose of Sharon patches I have cut, but it's ALOT. I have learned a few tricks using the die and decided to make a couple of videos showing my hints. Here's my Youtube videos.

My first video tutorial shows general use of the die, including a few tips on how to pre-fuse fat quarters so you get the most cuts from your fabric. The die is a great way to cut a "bunch" of Rose of Sharon pieces to create a "pallet". You can then design your blocks from your pallet. This is how I did the block above. Here is a picture of my pallet when I first started cutting. It has since overflowed this box!

My second video tutorial is how to use wonky scraps of all shapes and sizes to create pre-fused, ready-to-cut "fabric" to run thru the cutter. This method works with any of the applique dies and is a great way to get scraps out of those drawers and boxes and in to a quilt!
Please feel free to leave me any comments if you have questions about anything I talk about in the video. My Go! weekend is coming to an end.... can you all guess what I will be posting on Design Wall Monday????
PS - In my second video I show how to make a template to use behind a piece of fusible as a placement guide for fabric scaps. Here is a print-ready version of that Rose of Sharon Die Template. I have jazzed it up a bit so it looks a little nicer than the one in the video. Enjoy!

Congratulations on your first YouTube videos!! Rose of Sharon looks like a fantastic die. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteRaising arms, clapping hands, cheering you on and then giving you HIGH FIVES !!!
ReplyDeleteYou rock, Judy !! And not only that - I LEARNED a valuble lesson - how cool it is to make a template for the Rose of Sharon die - which I haven't even used yet.
I plan on ordering the book to go along with the die too. Thank you.
Congratulations! And thank you. These are excellent video tutorials too. I so now want to create a Rose of Sharon quilt with my GO!

Awesome job! Loved watching your tutorial!! what kind of fusible do you like best?
ReplyDeleteGreat tutorial. I will be back to see your other tutorial on how to use scraps. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteA service "above and beyond" to the Go! users of the quilt world. Accuquilt really should have you on their payroll. I have no doubt that your video has already sent people scurrying to buy the Rose of Sharon - and other - die(s). I thank you so very, very much.
